Publications & Doctoral Research
Tyler Suran's scholarship centers on counselor education pedagogy, neurodivergent clinician burnout, affirmative supervisory modalities for LGBTQIA+ associate therapists, and systemic clinical workforce sustainability.
Mitigating Minority Stress and Burnout Among LGBTQIA+ Associate Clinicians
Associate-level mental health professionals who hold marginalized sexual and gender identities face compounded minority stressors, including microaggressions, institutional heteronormativity, and secondary traumatic stress. This qualitative and empirical study develops and evaluates an affirmative, relational supervisory framework that targets systemic resilience, reduces early-career attrition, and fosters psychological safety within clinical training environments.
The Adrenaline Grind
Mental health systems are chronically designed around neurotypical administrative rhythms, forcing clinicians with ADHD into unsustainable adrenaline cycles, administrative exhaustion, and chronic burnout. This paper examines the systemic contradictions facing neurodivergent practitioners in high-volume community and agency settings, providing an affirmative framework for clinical boundary redesign, cognitive pacing, and sustainable unmasked practice.
Stop Folding In
Why do therapists, clinicians, and high-achieving neurodivergent and queer professionals collapse their boundaries to survive broken institutional rhythms? An urgent, compassionate inquiry dismantles individual 'self-care' bandages and introduces structural boundaries, clinical pacing, and sustainable relational stamina.
